TSF is the non-profit, non-governmental organization and the scientific research institution, playing a role of think tank to support scientists in applying science and sustainability innovations in cities and communities, as well as supporting cities in translating science into practice. TSF is supporting Polish cities in their activities and initiatives for Nature Based Solutions, sustainable management of green areas and their application for climate change adaptation and mitigation (e.g. the Directions of Development and Management of Green Areas in Krakow for the years 2017–2030; the Council for Water and Sewage Management by the Mayor of the City of Krakow; Polish Academy of Science Water Management Committee; Warsaw Catches Stormwater; the Development of Green Roofs Strategy for Warszawa).
NBS work includes projects and methods on the multidisciplinary assessment of socio-environmental justice (especially in terms of access to urban green spaces), network analysis of urban green infrastructure system to assess its connectivity (both social and ecological) and the means to close the gaps (interdisciplinary tools, combining technical, spatial planning, social and economic solutions); mapping of ecosystem services (GIS and computer models); analysis of factors and drivers of decision making in urban forest management – stakeholders benefiting from green spaces vs. those who have the strongest influence on the decisions in this regard; technical aspects of NBS and their abilities to provide ecosystem services (i.e. water retention and phytoremediation, air quality and microclimate) and the methods and tools of improving the ability of urban forests to provide the key ecosystem services.
Within REACHOUT TSF will provide local support to the city hub Gdynia (PL), contribute to the co-creation process across all hubs and be responsible for communication and dissemination for Poland.
