RESIN Adaptation Options Library

Tool description

The RESIN AOL is a searchable database of all kinds of adaptation measures to address climate risks. The performance of these measures has been evaluated through an extensive review of scientific literature, with references corresponding to each measure indicated as relevant.
Search filters allow to find and compare measures, with environmental effectiveness and cost efficiency among the criteria available for benchmarking.  Additionally selected measures can be exported into a csv format.

Complexity

Complexity explanation

An online version of AOL is freely available to visualize 100 adaptation options. It is easily accessible, has a short guideline under the help section and the performance informativion is represented in a visually appealing manner as well providing the scientific information.

City Hub experiences

  • Bratislava Muncipality used the tool to support Covenant of Mayors reporting
  • Bilbao Municipality used the tool to support its Adaptation Plan and benchmark the adaptation measures in their pluvial adaptation pathway design
  • Researchers to benchmark the performance of adaptation options to address heat and flooding

Benefits of using the tool

It allows to benchmark the adaptation options based on their environmental effectiveness and cost-efficiency as well as to understand different types of measures

Cost/effort for implementation

This tool requires no effort or cost for implementation, as it is freely available and provides an easy way to search for adaptation options.

Triple-A phases

The tool can be used in the following Triple-A phase:
  • Action phase: the tool can help in the identification and evaluation of adaptation measures based on environmental effectiveness (heat and floods) and benefit-cost ratio.

Complementary tools

The RESIN AOL could be used to identify adaptation measures after the analysis phase and be an input for the Adaptation Pathway Generator Tool. In addition, the RESIN AOL can complement the NBS Catalogue and be used within the NBS Adaptation Tool.

The climate story of Gdynia
